Signs and Symptoms

Chiropractic does not treat a particular disease or symptom, rather it restores nerve function, body balance, and the proper communication between the body and the brain. The following list of conditions is not provided to prove that Chiropractic can cure a specific disease, but to demonstrate that upper cervical misalignment severely compromises ones health, and produces numerous symptoms. When nerve interference is removed, the body can heal itself. Moreover, this is not an exhaustive list.

From birth to adulthood, different sets of symptoms dominate the health picture, affecting the body, mind and social well-being. The extent of damage of one's health is determined by two important factors:
  • the age when the Atlas Subluxation occurred - the younger the patient, the more involvement with nervous, skeletal and mental development,
  • the duration of its existence - the longer it is left unattended, the more complex the symptomatolgy.

  2. 2nd to 4th years
  3. 4th to 6th years
  4. Early school years
  5. Pre-adolescence
  6. Adults and older children

Infant (the first year)
KISS Kinetic Imbalance due to Suboccipital Strain
The brain develops tremendous during the first 5 years of life; proper sensory input is important of its development and result in normal motor function. Upper cervical misalignment at birth severely affects the verticalization of the body and development of brain and motor function.
  • fixed lateroflexion or fixed retroflexion of neck
  • dysphoria
  • swallowing problem
  • asymmetrical motor development
More extensive coverage of signs and symptoms can be found in KISS.

The infant may show only minor symptoms in the early months of their lives, e.g. a temporary fixation of the head in one position, and may 'recover' spontaneously.

The symptoms will usually subside within the first year, rarely last longer than 2 years.

Children (the second to fourth years)
This is the 'silient period', the children can be quite normal even after such a difficult first year.

Children (the fourth to sixth years)

KIDD KISS-Induced Dysgnosia and Dyspraxia

However, new sets of symptoms occur at different stages of development; it is called KIDD (KISS-Induced Dysgnosia and Dyspraxia) in children.

Complaints about 'clumsiness' or slow motor development
Remarks about 'difficulties with other children'.
Sleep disorders

Children (early school years)

KIDD KISS-Induced Dysgnosia and Dyspraxia

Lack of fine motor skills, difficulty with drawing and writing
Lacking global motor skills, poor coordination in sports
Cannot sit still, unable to concentrate
Headaches
Quite a large number of them suffering from:
ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) which previously called MBD (minimal brain damage), ADD (attention deficit disorder) with and without hyperactivity, hyperkinesis, hyperkinetic impulse disorder, hyperactive syndrome, hyperkinetic reaction of childhood,  minimal brain dysfunction, etc.

Children (pre-adolescence)

KIDD KISS-Induced Dysgnosia and Dyspraxia

Difficulties regarding social interaction
Unable and unwilling to fullfil the requirements of school
Headaches

Adults and older children
Pain Headache, thoracic or abdominal pain, joint pain, neck and back pain, sciatica
Imbalance Sickness, nausea, dizziness, inexplicable falls
Ophthalmological symptoms Fatigue, red eyes, eye strain, pain in or around the eyes, blurred vision, double vision
Proprioceptive related symptoms Dysmetria, somatoagnosia, errors of appreciation of the body image.
Articular symptoms TMJ Syndrome, stiff neck, lumbago, periarthritis, sprains
Structural problems Scoliosis
Neuromuscular symptoms Paresia, defect of motor control of the extremities.
Neurovascular symptoms Parasthesia of the extremities, Raynaud's phenomenon.
Cardio-circulatory symptoms Pseudoangina (Cervical angina), Tachycardia, feeling of faintness
Respiratory symptoms Dyspnoea, fatigue
Auditory symptoms Tinnitus, deafness
Male and female problems Pain during the menstrual period (dysmenorrhea), premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and chronic pelvic pain
Miscellaneous Dyslexia, dysgraphia, agoraphobia, defect of orientation, defect of spatial localization right and left, problem with concentration, loss of memory, lack of bodily strength, anxiety, depression
